A downloadable game

In Intelligentia, you play a man, who lives on a nearly deserted island, with only 4 other people, where the rest of the inhabitants have already moved out. He decides he also must leave, so he can start a successful business and then move it to the island to make it appreciated again.

For doing that, he needs to get the keys to success: Patience, Confidence and Motivation. For getting these, he speaks with the people living on the island, who make him solve riddles, crack a code or find his way through a maze and then give him the key.

Why the name? Well, I hope the puzzles will help make you more intelligent. I know, I'm not very creative with names, or art for that matter, as none of the art, graphics or sounds!, is mine. I just made the engine and the gameplay.  If it seems as though the story latched on and not meant to be there, it is. I just needed a story around the puzzle game, but it's not good or important.

Sorry for any bugs, but I hope that with help of this, my first game, I can find out what people consider to be more, or less important in games.

Why I made it in Java: When I started out programming, I did alot of Java game-dev tutorials. So I have alot of experience with this.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THE CODE:

Without wanting to spoil too much, it is important that this game was released on the 22nd of march 2020! At least one of these numbers is important!

Solution / Help with the riddles:

What word is least like the others: Zipper / Etchers / More: Zipper, you can make city names from the others.

What number best completes the following sequence: 1 2 4 7 ? 22: 16, you add 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… respectively to the proceeding number.

What number is one more than one tenth of one fifth of one half of 4000: 41 -> (4000 / 2 / 5 / 10) + 1 = 41

Mary likes cookies, but not cake, likes mutton, but not lamb, likes okra but not squash. Following the same rule, will she like cherries, cucumber or pears: cherries -> She only likes food with 2 syllables.

Take the number of total mittens 3 kittens lost, and multiply by the voting age in the U.S.. What is the answer: 216 -> 3 * 4 * 18 = 216 Kittens have 4 paws!

Code: KCOPGXTNGCXPI -> IAMNEVERLEAVING -> I am never leaving -> Take the letter’s number in the alphabet and go 2 back. 2 because the game was released on the 22nd.

I hop you’ll enjoy the game and I wish you a pleasant experience with my first significant try in this medium / form of art.

I wish you fun and a hard time with the puzzles!

Install instructions

To run the game you need to have at least Java-JDK 13 installed. Here's a link to a helpful installation guide: https://java.tutorials24x7.com/blog/how-to-install-java-13-on-windows.

Apart from that, this does run on any OS, but if you're not running windows, the launch.bat file won't work so you have to start the jar directly. This works perfectly fine, but you loose multi-screen support, i.e. you can't drag the window off the screen it started on or the program ('s main thread) will crash, but the music will continue playing and there's no way to stop it! (Not even the task manager!). But apart from that, it should work perfectly fine.

Where is the exe file? Also, you can change the page by clicking the "published" button at the top of the page.

I tried to convert it to an exe but that only works up to java 8. This is java 13, so you have to run the jar or the launcher.bat. And thanks for the editing hint!

I unzipped the file, but I can't get it to boot up.

Do you have Java 13 installed?

Sorry, I didn't get how to change the about text, so I give credit here:
